Overview & Terminology
EQI-Flo Terminology Table
Using these terms consistently will help both instructors and members better learn and understand the EQI-Flo practice.
EQI-Flo Defined
EQI-Flo is modern isometrics for strength, balance, and mobility.
Isometrics Defined
Standard static holds require maintaining a fixed position without any change in muscle length.
Eccentric Quasi Isometrics (EQI) Defined
EQI is a training modality defined as holding a submaximal load, followed by maintaining resistance during the subsequent eccentric or lowering phase.
Flow
A flow is a sequenced combination of movements.
Class or Program
The target class length for these preset classes is 60 minutes. The time can be modified to fit your studio’s or your members’ needs.
Equipment Recommendations
Most of the flows in this practice can be performed with bodyweight only. A few require, or can be more effective, with a resistance band placed around your thighs or ankles. Several other flows require a yoga strap.
Balance Benefits
The single leg balancing segment of all these flows can be modified as needed by the instructor and member at any time.
Mobility Benefits
While we do not provide a mobility value, mobility is integrated into all our warm-ups, cooldowns, and many of the flows.
